Dubai Police ban heavy trucks on Tripoli Street during peak hours
To strengthen traffic safety and safeguard the lives of road users, Dubai Police have implemented a ban on heavy trucks along Tripoli Street during peak morning and evening hours. This initiative is part of a broader set of regulatory measures designed to minimise traffic accidents, enhance traffic flow, and alleviate congestion on critical roads, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority.Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Operations, stated that the restriction on heavy truck movement along Tripoli Street during morning and evening rush hours is one of several traffic measures designed to enhance road safety, safeguard the lives of motorists, and minimise severe accidents caused by the interaction between heavy and light vehicles. He stressed that safeguarding the lives of road users stands as a key priority in Dubai Police's traffic strategy. He also highlighted that many severe accidents stem from errors made by certain drivers, who deliberately ignore traffic rules, leading to tragic incidents that unfortunately claim the lives of innocent individuals.Major General Said Al Mazrouei further stated that the Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), had taken several significant regulatory measures recently. These included placing restrictions on truck movements along key routes and organizing the movement of trucks and workers’ buses along Algeria Street. The initiatives aimed to enhance traffic flow and improve safety levels on both main and internal roads. He also highlighted the development of new traffic regulations specifically targeting designated lanes for motorcycles, heavy vehicles, and large buses, marking a critical effort to boost road safety. Currently, a new phase of planning is underway to promote greater compliance with these lanes and improve overall safety metrics. He further explained that the upcoming phase will focus on refining lane management in alignment with the unique characteristics of each roadway. Ongoing traffic studies are examining various highways, such as Hatta Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road, to assess speed patterns and evaluate the feasibility of monitoring vehicles, particularly heavy ones, that fall below the minimum speed limit. This initiative aims to mitigate serious accidents and enhance the fluidity of traffic. These measures, he underscored, are designed to alleviate congestion and eliminate traffic bottlenecks while fostering a safer travel environment, especially around roads leading to residential zones.
