Ayalaga Tamizhar Dinam 2026, held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, emerged as a significant platform connecting Tamil Nadu with the global Tamil community. The event focused on recognising excellence, strengthening global engagement, and highlighting the role of overseas Tamils in education, research, and development.
The programme went beyond celebration to underline how global Tamil professionals contribute to knowledge creation, innovation, and international collaboration.
Awards Highlight State Recognition of Global Tamil Contributions
A central highlight of the event was the award presentation ceremony led by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M. K. Stalin. By personally presenting the awards, the Chief Minister underscored the State’s recognition of overseas Tamils who have made meaningful contributions in their respective fields.
The awards symbolised Tamil Nadu’s intent to build long-term, outcome-oriented relationships with the global Tamil diaspora, particularly in areas of education, research, and intellectual leadership.
The programme was also attended by Thiru S. M. Nasar, Hon’ble Minister for Minorities Welfare and Non-Resident Tamils Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the State’s commitment to structured engagement with overseas Tamils.

Among the distinguished award recipients was Prof. Chithirai Pon Selvan, Director of Research and Head of the School of Science and Engineering at Curtin University, Dubai, and Student Chapter President of FEDA Global Council UAE. He was honoured for his leadership in research, academic excellence, and his role in advancing international collaboration in science and engineering.
His recognition reflected the growing global footprint of Tamil academicians and highlighted how overseas Tamil leaders, including those associated with international bodies such as the FEDA Global Council, are contributing to world-class research ecosystems while maintaining strong links with Tamil Nadu.
