Aadhaar App: Now update your name, address and phone number from home, UIDAI launches new Aadhaar app

Aadhaar App: What if you want to update the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar, but don’t have time to visit a mobile phone center? Or are you worried about your old number being disabled? Or maybe you need to update other Aadhaar-related information, but the whole process seems cumbersome.

Aadhaar App: If you want to update the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar, but don’t have time to visit a mobile phone center? Or are you worried about your old number being disabled? Or maybe you need to update other Aadhaar-related information but find the entire process unnecessarily cumbersome, here’s an easy solution.

UIDAI has launched a new Aadhaar app, which offers features like secure offline verification, selective data sharing, and mobile number updates. The app aims to make managing your digital identity easy, secure, and convenient, right from your smartphone.

Here’s a simple and clear breakdown of what features the new Aadhaar app offers, where to download it, and how it reduces your dependence on the physical Aadhaar card.

What is the new Aadhaar app?

The new Aadhaar app is designed to make Aadhaar management simple, secure, and easy to use on a daily basis. UIDAI says that despite repeated warnings, people across India routinely share Aadhaar photocopies for purposes such as hotel check-in, SIM card verification, and office verification, increasing the risk of data misuse.

UIDAI aims to address this issue by enabling offline Aadhaar verification through the new Aadhaar app, where identity verification can be done without sharing Aadhaar number or biometric data, making routine authentication more secure. Furthermore, the app allows users to update essential information such as mobile number and address, and share select Aadhaar information without handing over a physical copy.

How to download Aadhaar App

To download and use the Aadhaar App, follow the steps given below:

  • Open Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) on your mobile.
  • Search for the official “Aadhaar” app of UIDAI in the search box.
  • Download and install the app.
  • Select your preferred language and complete the setup.
  • Once installed, you can start using the app for digital identity management, verification, and updates.

How does offline Aadhaar verification work?

After downloading and setting up the app, users can verify their identity offline without an internet connection and without needlessly sharing personal information. There are two ways to verify Aadhaar offline:

Share ID: Users can create a password-protected Aadhaar file and share only selected details – such as name and age – as needed.

Scan QR Code: This app allows users to scan a QR code displayed at the opposite entity. This allows for instant identity verification without providing any physical documents or photocopies of Aadhaar.

How to use the Aadhaar app to update phone number and address

  • Apart from offline authentication, the Aadhaar app also allows users to update their mobile number and address directly from the app.
  • Open the Aadhaar app and log in using Aadhaar-based authentication.
  • Go to the ‘Update Aadhaar details’ option on the home screen.
  • Decide whether you want to update mobile number or address.
  • Fill in the new details and submit for verification.
  • Complete the authentication as directed in the app.
  • You will have to pay a nominal fee for the update.
  • Once the verification is done, your details will be updated in the Aadhaar record.

Other features of the Aadhaar app

Along with offline verification, the app also includes several other useful tools, such as:

Create up to five Aadhaar profiles: This feature is useful for families as it allows managing Aadhaar details of children or dependents from a single device.

Aadhaar Contact Card: Allows users to securely share contact details without exposing full information when required.

New rule for organizations using offline Aadhaar

UIDAI has introduced a new rule, under which it will be mandatory for institutions and organizations to register to use offline Aadhaar verification.

The move aims to prevent misuse and ensure that only authorized entities—such as banks, hotels, and service providers—can verify Aadhaar details using the app. Offline Aadhaar verification is expected to gradually be adopted across all sectors.
