Last week, precious metals, gold and silver, continued their dazzling run. Silver, in particular, rose to as high as $93 before paring gains. In China’s Shanghai Futures Exchange, it is quoted at over $100 an ounce. Swiss multinational financial services firm UBS says gold and silver will witness different halves this year, with prices soaring in the first half. Though Indonesia has curbed groundnut imports from India, the commodity is finding its way into Jakarta illegally. The APEC Climate Center has predicted the emergence of drought-bearing El Niño in late July. The draft seed bill that the Indian government has circulated will ensure there is no price control order, tighten supervision, but farmers will have to go to consumers court against fake seeds. The Cotton Corporation of India will begin selling the 2025-26 season cotton it has procured from January 19. The Indian tea sector feels it has been left in the lurch due to the current Iranian unrest.
