Authorities intensify drainage efforts after heavy rain drenches Fujairah, Sharjah
The Emirate of Fujairah and the cities of the Emirate of Sharjah in the Eastern Region witnessed heavy rainfall that lasted for long hours at intervals, accompanied by noticeable weather fluctuations due to a tropical depression, which led valleys to overflow and large quantities of water to accumulate in the main roads, roundabouts and residential neighborhoods.Concurrently, the competent authorities rushed to implement emergency plans to deal with the consequences of the rain and ensure public safety.Various cities and areas in the Emirate of Fujairah witnessed rains of varying intensity, which led large puddles to form in the main and side streets, especially in low-lying areas.The rains also led the mountainous streams and valleys to overflow due to the heavy rainfall. This necessitated the police teams to intensify their traffic and security patrols in the streets and valleys in anticipation of any urgent developments.The rainy weather extended to the cities of the Emirate of Sharjah’s Eastern Region including Kalba, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al Hisn, which saw heavy rainfall accompanied by active winds at times and a noticeable drop in temperature. More rains are expected in the upcoming period.In a swift response, municipalities intensified their efforts to drain accumulated water from roads using modern tankers and pumps.Field teams worked round the clock to ensure water drainage and smooth traffic flow. Additional drainage channels were also opened in some sites with large puddles and water levels in residential neighborhoods were continuously monitored.Fujairah, Dibba Al Fujairah, Khorfakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn municipalities stated that emergency teams were on high alert before the start of the fluctuating weather as part of proactive plans aimed at reducing the effects of the rain, noting that co-ordination was ongoing with the concerned authorities to ensure a rapid response and address any reports.
