Last week, the Ministry of Agriculture came up with its first estimate of horticulture crops production which shows that fruits’ output has made up for the decline in vegetables. With maize prices ruling lower during the current crop year, a section of growers will likely shift to oilseeds and pulses in the coming kharif season. With the Iran war prolonging, India’s fertilizer industry is worried over availability of ample urea supplies. Over 40 per cent of India’s major reservoirs are half empty and demand for cotton yarn has increased from China, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
